WHY ARE WE DOING THIS?

Private Sector Catalyst for COP28

The COP28 Presidency is hosting the Business & Philanthropy Climate Forum (BPCF) on 1 – 2 December, at Expo City, Dubai, United Arab Emirates, held concurrently with the heads of state-level World Climate Action Summit at the beginning of the two-week COP28 program that runs from 30 November to 12 December. The Forum represents a critical turning point in our collective efforts to address the urgent challenges of climate change and biodiversity loss.

With its dynamism, resources, and innovation, the Private Sector plays a pivotal role in driving meaningful climate and nature action. In collaboration with key delivery partners, including Sustainable Markets Initiative, International Finance Corporation, the Organisation for Economic and Co-operation and Development, World Economic Forum, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Asian Development Bank, XPRIZE, Inter-American Development Bank and Africa Finance Corporation, the Forum will convene 500 business and philanthropy leaders, alongside policymakers, to foster co-creation and collaboration and accelerate cross-sectoral progress around net zero and nature positive goals.

Inclusivity and equity is at the heart of the mission

The imperative to act on climate and nature issues is becoming clearer every day, and it is evident that achieving these objectives requires a fundamental transformation in the economic systems. In addressing environmental challenges, it is imperative to recognize that sustainable growth cannot be pursued in isolation. It necessitates a holistic approach that ensures accessibility and equity for all, particularly in regions of the Global South. This commitment to inclusivity and equity is at the heart of the Forum’s mission.

In essence, the Forum provides a platform for global leaders to come together, transcend boundaries, and work towards a future where businesses and philanthropy lead the charge in achieving net-zero emissions, preserving biodiversity, and creating a more sustainable, prosperous world for all.
